Preparing for an Executive Coaching Session

October 18, 2011

Sarah Le Roy, Linkage’s Vice President of Talent Management, and Elizabeth Serio, Linkage Consultant, share tips to help prepare you for a productive one-on-one coaching session.

“The key to a great coaching experience is going into it with an open mind and also to really take the time to reflect upon what you, the coachee, wants to get from the experience,” says Sarah. “It isn’t just about looking at what is reflected back at you though that is a key element–it is also an opportunity to step back and think about how you want to become a better leader. How you want to move forward towards your goals.  An open mind combined with personal reflection prior to the program makes for a really rich coaching experience.”

Elizabeth agrees: “Get yourself mentally ready for a coaching session by taking the time to reflect on great leaders you know and admire.  What do you admire about them?  What are qualities they have that you would like to emulate? Who do you want to be as a leader, and as a person, moving forward?”

Bring these examples and thoughts to your coaching session and talk to your coach about them. Coaches are great listeners.  They will ask hard questions.  They will force you to look at yourself from many different angles.  They will believe in you and be a support force to help you grow into the leader you want to be.

Join us tomorrow to hear more from Sarah and Elizabeth about what to expect from a one-on-one coaching session.
