In just a few short days, we will kick off the Women in Leadership Institute™! Coming to you live from Orlando, Florida, and through our virtual platform, our hybrid format allows us to reach more women than ever before—3,000 attendees will join us for this four-day, transformative leadership development experience. As we prepare to welcome these women leaders, I am reflecting on the journey that they have taken to get to this moment: 3,000 women, 3,000 unique stories of innovation, intelligence, thoughtfulness and resilience.
The most recent Women in the Workplace report by McKinsey found that 10.5% of women leaders—from senior managers all the way up to the C-suite—quit their jobs over the past year, the highest rate in the five years that McKinsey has surveyed companies on attrition rates.
Why are women leaving? According to the report, one of the reasons is that women leaders say they want a better work culture. In addition, 49% of women leaders say flexibility is another top factor they consider when deciding whether to join or stay with a company. Women leaders are also more than 1.5x as likely as men at the same level to have left a previous job because they wanted to work for a company that was more committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Bottom line: It is an incredibly important time for women leaders to join together in a strong community—and for organizations to support these women on their advancement journeys.
