Top 10 Things You Can Do to Prepare for #LinkageWIL

November 7, 2017 Kerry Seitz
We’re just one week away from welcoming 800+ leaders to Linkage’s Women in Leadership Institute (WIL). Our team is in transit to Dallas, TX—eager to welcome you for what promises to be a memorable experience, and a fundamental step in your leadership journey. We asked our team to share some helpful resources for you to think about in order to get the most out of your time with us. Here are the top 10 things to ponder as you prepare for #LinkageWIL:
  1. Download the #LinkageWIL app on your tablet or mobile device. Access your personalized schedule, communicate with your personal coach, explore the faculty and executive coach biographies, network with other attendees, and get program updates.
  2. Print your assessment. This week, you will receive a link to your personalized 360° Women in Leadership Assessment report. Print a copy of the report and take a few minutes to reflect on the data. Jot down your questions and bring a copy with you.
  3. Give yourself permission to focus on you. The Institute experience is about thinking about what’s next and what’s possible. The first step is getting clear about what we want and need. WIL co-chair Susan MacKenty Brady offers a framework for success.
  4. Your mindset matters. According to Wall Street veteran Carla Harris, your ability to inspire your team is a direct result of your actions and your behavior—and it creates better results. Read her blog, Inspiration & Why It Matters.
  5. Think about what’s important to you. Yes, circumstances change, and we continue to evolve over the course of our lifetime. This doesn’t mean that we should abandon what we’re passionate about. Read WIL Program Director Kerry Seitz’s blog: You, version 2.0.
  6. Ask yourself: why do I lead? At WIL, you’ll have the unique opportunity to reflect on your own journey—and what inspires you to lead. Our greatest call to action as leaders is to live our purpose. It matters—and has a lasting impact. Our team’s recent research explains how.
  7. Own your narrative—be proud of it. “When we deny the story, it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.” Check out New York Times bestselling author and WIL faculty member Brené Brown’s TED talk “The Power of Vulnerability.”
  8. Differences make us stronger. WIL faculty and global leadership consultant Karen Cvitkovich shares how to navigate through the different cultural realities of how people think and get things done across time zones. She shares her perspective in this blog.
  9. Healthy habits matter. Developing healthy habits will enhance your leadership abilities and help you excel in your role. Check out WIL faculty Tara Swart’s “5 Brain Health Habits For Better Leadership.”
  10. Think about how you connect with others. Facilitators from the legendary sketch and improv comedy theater Second City will challenge us to think differently about how we can connect with others in an authentic way. It’s about connection, curiosity and clarity.
If you aren’t joining us at this year’s Institute, you can follow all of the action on Twitter: #LinkageWIL and stay tuned to our Facebook page for photos.
