Getting Inspired by Magic Johnson in 2020 | Linkage’s Global Institute for Leadership Development®
Here at Linkage, our product team has been hard at work developing a brand-new set of programming designed to elevate the readiness of leaders at premier organizations around the world—and I am feeling truly inspired by our work.
We partner with the best and brightest leadership thought leaders and educators, and I am continually impressed by their thoughtfulness and vision for the future of leadership. These people are next level, and there’s no one I’m more excited about working with in 2020 than Magic Johnson.
We just announced that Magic will take to the main stage at Linkage’s Global Institute for Leadership Development® (GILD) on Oct 5–7, 2020, in Palm Desert, CA.
Magic is the epitome of a Purposeful Leader: He’s effective, inspiring—but above all, he’s committed to evolving the expectations we have of our leaders. His leadership is a model for thoughtful, community-driven action.
Magic is also a man of vision, and here’s one example: His unprecedented Starbucks partnership served as the catalyst for redevelopment in urban communities and is literally the blueprint for Corporate America’s engagement and success with urban consumers.
Here’s what else inspires me about Magic:
- Runs a conglomeration worth almost $1 billion
- Owns a controlling interest in EquiTrust Life Insurance Company
- Has been highly successful in bringing redevelopment opportunities to ethnically diverse, underserved urban areas through partnerships with Starbucks, MasterCard and their own entertainment company
- Is a part owner of a Major League Baseball and a Major League Soccer team
- Was extremely active in increasing awareness and destigmatizing a major medical health crisis
- Has won an Olympic Gold Medal
- Has won a college National Championship
- Has won 5 NBA Championships, 3 NBA MVPs and played in 12 NBA All-Star Games
- Played for the Lakers
Recently, Magic’s eloquence as a speaker and role as a community leader has been in the news after the untimely passing of fellow NBA legend, Kobe Bryant. He released a series of tweets following the tragic news, and stated “Kobe was a leader of our game, a mentor to both male and female players.” At such a difficult time, Magic’s sentiments regarding his friend and colleague were heartfelt, and brought comfort to many. As leaders, we have much to learn from Magic.
This fall, hundreds of leaders will come together at GILD for three days of immersive leadership development. They will hear from Magic Johnson and some other incredible speakers, and dive into small-group learning to unpack what they hear on the main stage. I know that the experience will be transformative—and I can’t wait to hear what Magic has to share with us.
