Leadership Lessons from “Survivor of the Andes” and more: Meet our GILD Faculty

September 28, 2012

Our world-renowned Global Institute for Leadership Development (GILD) is coming up. Along with the excitement of our executive coaching and learning team sessions, we are proud to bring some of the world’s foremost thought leaders to GILD to discuss the key leadership differentiators described in our High Impact Leadership Model. The lessons and discussions sparked by our world-class faculty are always one of the highlights of our Institute—providing leaders with anecdotes and life lessons that resonate across all levels of position and seniority.

Among the challenges our faculty will address this year are:

How do you lead when there is ‘no hope?’
Nando Parrado on Focused Drive

The “Survivor of the Andes,” Nando knows what it takes to overcome unexpected hardships. In his discussion, Nando will share his experiences following the crash of his Uruguayan rugby team’s plane (has depicted in the book and movie, Alive). Injured, hungry, and seemingly without hope, Nando and his teammates survived 72 days alone in the frozen Andres Mountains. His story of courage, teamwork, determination, and leadership will leave you with a heightened awareness of the value of human life.

How much emotion is too much in leadership?
Brené Brown on Emotional Intelligence

An award-winning professor, best-selling author, and vulnerability researcher, Dr. Brown has spent her career studying the part that emotions play in life and in leadership and followership. During her discussion, she will share advice for improving relationships through empathy and inspiration. In addition, she will provide insight into how you can track and maintain your own emotions in a way that instills confidence in your team. This summer, Dr. Brown joined us to discuss vulnerability and leadership. Listen to her discussion in this free recorded webinar>>.

How do you inspire others to achieve the impossible?
Bill Strickland on Creating the Vision

Bill Strickland’s work championing disadvantaged youth and his role as CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation all began from a vision. Throughout his life, Bill has been credited (and awarded) for his ability to inspire others through his deeply-rooted sense of mission and purpose (from using art to teach life lessions to at-risk students to establishing partnerships to help train displaced adults for new jobs). At GILD, Bill will discuss how to seize opportunities to make a difference and make the most of your available resources.

How do I keep my followers inspired, especially in the difficult times?
Sheila Heen on Communication & Negotiation

From board rooms to new techninology, communication skills are core to being a great leader. As co-author of the New York Times best-seller Difficult Conversations, Sheila literally wrote the book on communication and negotiation. During GILD, she will share ways to inspire action and commitment through compelling, focused messages.

How do you build a culture that can anticipate demands and seize future opportunities?
Jeremy Gutsche on Driving Growth through Innovation

An award winning author and ground-breaking host of Trend Hunter TV, Jeremy Gustche has built his career on spotting the next big thing and understanding how innovation affects business. At GILD, he will share how to build a culture that uses previously untapped innovation assets to create real profits for your organization.
