Friday, December 10, 2010 1:00 pm EST
Developing and managing a diversity initiative that drives organizational change is a complex process. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, successful organizations have consistently shown the ability to achieve internalization―a state well beyond compliance, reflecting both appreciation and expectation. When large numbers of people in an organization act from an internalized sense of the appropriateness of the diversity mission, diversity objectives become part of the culture of the organization.
Internalization is the most profound level of influence. It is the process by which an individual employee takes the mission represented by the new behavior as his or her own. Achieving internalization takes concerted, consistent effort that starts at the top and cascades throughout the organization. The payoff is distinct competitive advantage that is recognized by employees, clients, suppliers, and competitors.
This session will explore:
• Best practices and steps for creating a culture that embeds internalization
• Elements of programs that enable this journey
• Techniques for securing management commitment
• Success stories such as Pershing, Baker Daniels, and Luxottica
Presenter Audra M. Bohannon is Vice president of Diversity & Inclusion Consulting for Global Novations.
