“Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself.

-- Betsy Myers

Over the past fifty years, leadership programs, universities, and scholars have conducted more than one thousand studies to determine definitive styles, characteristics, and personality traits of an ideal leader.  Not one of those studies produced a clear profile of an authentic leader.  Just what characteristics and leadership styles are necessary to be an authentic leader?  How can you bring out the best leadership styles and traits in yourself to become an effective authentic leader? Betsy Myers can tell you what being an authentic leader means to her.  As a woman who has had careers in the private, corporate, and political arenas, Ms. Myers knows that being an authentic leader requires tremendous self-awareness and the right team of people who will act as your support group.  Ms. Myers has drawn her inspiration to succeed – and her support – from a broad collection of people: her colleagues, public and political leaders, and close family and friends.  She knows that leading an authentic life plays a critical role in the making of an authentic leader.

During this program you will learn:

·    The impact that changing your attitude can have on your career and the people around you

·    The necessity to get past our fears of change, and make the changes necessary to be happier in both our personal and professional lives

·    How to allow yourself to ask questions necessary to benefit your team and company; how maintaining curiosity throughout life will help you grow into your true self

·    The need to understand our passions to discover what drives us forward in our personal and professional lives

Betsy Myers served as a senior advisor to Barak Obama’s Presidential Campaign under the title of Chief Operating Officer.  During this campaign she was also the senior advisor and chair of Women for Obama and she worked with the Democratic National Convention’s Women’s Leadership Program.  During this campaign Ms. Myers learned the importance of leaders who are not afraid to be who they are.  She will share with you the remarkable insight she gained from this role on what it means to stay true to oneself, and how leading a life filled with truth and trust benefits the organization as well as oneself. Before working on the presidential campaign, Betsy Myers was the Executive Director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.  She was brought into her role at the Center for Public Leadership based on her track record of strategically building and realigning organizations.  Her method of business and leadership focuses on “leadership from the heart.”  Ms. Myers recognizes that leadership from the heart is a style of leadership that is more feminine than our culture is familiar with. She has said, “Thirty years ago we were thinking leadership was from the head only.”  However, authentic leaders must have the ability to be relatable and reachable. At The Center for Public Leadership Betsy cultivated the idea of leadership from the heart, and has given the concept life by bringing it to the leaders she has advised. Prior to her positions with President Obama’s campaign and with The Center for Public Leadership, Betsy Myers was a senior official in the Clinton Administration as President Clinton’s senior advisor on women’s issues.
